Product Review: Metal Halide 150W HQI lamps
Welcome to our website where you will find information on Metal Halide 150W HQI bulbs. 150W HQI with a quartz burner and high light return are intended for external and internal illumination. HQI abbreviation is a registered trade mark of OSRAM company. Metal halide lamps of any manufacturer are named like this today. There are lamps with heat-white, neutral-white and a daylight chromacity.
HQI are compact lamps with contacts for connection located at both ends and with reduced UV – radiation. They are intended only for the hooded fixtures. The UV-FILTER technology is used. The lamps possess high brightness and an excellent color rendering index. They are very reliable and have a long-lasting service life. The flask of lamps is filled with inert gas and mercury. The lamp radiates ultra-violet light, for spectral characteristics change the internal surface of a glass flask gets covered with a component increasing a share of a red spectrum. Without it the lamp burns with white-blue light (on a very high temperature). Light spectrum of HQI lamps demonstrates high peak values in certain spectral areas while other spectral areas almost completely drop out. At 400, 600, and 700 nm a lot of light radiates, while between 450-550nm, and also between 650-700 nm-the amount of radiated light significantly decreases. The light such a lamp radiates has a yellowish or reddish shade. Because of the mentioned features of technology, HQI lamp with a chromatic temperature of 6000 K simply doesn’t exist. The lamps with 3000-4500K are manufactured basically, more rare the lamps with 5600K, for example Osram HQI-TS 150/D/EXCELLENCE RX7S 5600K.
The latest generation of 150W HQI lamps is based on HID (High Intensity Discharge) technology. ADA MH HQI NA Lamp 150W are also made based on it. The spectrum of HSI-TD bulbs is more even comparing to HQI. To raise this or that part of spectrum of lamps, various gases are used: thallium for green area, sodium for yellow, lithium for red, indium for dark blue area. Service life of the bulb is 12000 hours. Intensity of TS lamps radiation for the first 2-3 months decreases on about 10-15 %, and the lamp gets stable in further exploitation. In aquarium husbandry the other kind of metal halid bulbs is used, it is marked as "HSI-TD", for example MH HSI-TD AquaArc 150W 10000 К. Famous for a good color rendition and very high stability of chromatic temperature throughout all service life. Color of the light looks brightly white with a green or blue shade, which is pleasant for eyes. Protective glass from UV beams is demanded.
150W HQI-E bulbs with one socle are suitable to be used in opened fixtures and have the lowered UV-radiation. Their main advantage is carving socle E27 or E40, they are easy to install and are fitted with UV-FILTER.
150W HQI-T are the shortest bulbs in HQI family but despite their small size they don't concede to larger models in brightness . Bulbs have one socle and heat-white chromaticity.
SAFETY MEASURES FOR HQI AND HIS-TD LAMPS:
Short-term faults in an electrical supply and strong vibration cause an extinction of HQI lamps. For repeated ignition the lamp should be cooled down.
Lamps are developed to be used in certain position. Therefore for the most effective illumination, select a lamp, according to its prospective arrangement. The mark «universal» means that the lamp can be used in any position. Pay attention that in vertical position, the potential source of TS lamps decreases.
The flask of HQI Lamps is not allowed to be touched!
Before the installation of a lamp, wipe it with medical spirit and, with help of a clean napkin, carefully insert into the fixture.
HQI bulbs can BLOW up if they contact water. The lamp should be isolated with integumentary glass for the protection from any possible SPLASHES!
HQI Lamps may not have protection from UV and radiate a lot of ultra-violet light that is very dangerous for eyes, - it can cause blindness. Buy the lamps with a mark "UV blocked" - or isolate a lamp with silicate glass.
